This course explores the cultures and artistic production of Sub-Saharan Francophone Africa with a focus on the major political movements and global intersections connecting the African continent with the rest of the French-speaking world. Undergraduate students at the 4110 level will discover the work of major authors and activists from Senegal, Mali, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Maghrib and elsewhere. Graduate students enrolled at the 5110 level will complement their studies with a pedagogical practicum that will include readings in pedagogical methods and practical teaching exercises for the college-level modern language classroom.
