Associate Professor Josh Shepperd is undergraduate chair of the Department of Media Studies, and the faculty advisor ofÌý. Josh researches the institutional, political, and conceptual history of the mediated public sphere in the U.S. He is author ofÌýShadow of the New Deal: The Victory of Public BroadcastingÌý(University of Illinois Press), which received the 2024 BEA Book Award and placed as a runner-up or finalist for four other book awards. He is currently co-writing the History of Public Media for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) and Current, and is the founding Associate Editor ofÌýResonance: The Journal of Sound and CultureÌý(University of California Press).

Josh additionally designs and directs applied policy projects for the Library of Congress National Recording Preservation Board and Recorded Sound Section. He’s director of the LOC’s , , and serves as senior research advisor of the .
